Hero’s Hand is a game in development by the indie team Villain Games. This debut game from the North Carolina-based team is set to bring a fresh experience. Combining a Fantasy RPG Roguelike experience based on Poker.

Hero’s Hand: Announcement and Release Window

The initial announcement came from Villain Games during the Day Of The Devs GDC 2025. The annual event took place this year on March 16, 2025, in San Francisco. During this event, the team presented a sneak peek of their Hero’s Hand.

A Poker Card-based Roguelike RPG with a fantasy theme. Accompanied by a charming announcement trailer where enemies gathered around a campfire lament the actions of the protagonist. The hero, known as the Knight of Spades, with a showcase of gameplay involving combos and upgrades. Set to launch on PC and Console in 2026.

Hero’s Hand – Gameplay and Features

As the Knight of Spades, we will be tasked with saving the kingdom of Cardunia. From the threat of Mortis Numa and the classic fantasy monsters that have infested the kingdom. All within a Roguelike card game offering:

  • Poker-Style Combat: By choosing the right cards and unleashing powerful attacks with spiritual weapons with different types of hands. Also featuring over 180 Fortunes for various buffs and 4 characters to choose from.
  • Weapons and Equipment: Our equipment will be essential, including powerful Relics that can change the course of battles. But at a steep price. With over 60 Potions and scrolls available.
  • RPG System: A classic RPG level-up system with a Roguelike twist. Each Run having a strong impact on the next, with upgrades and resources. Also, randomized runs for a constantly different experience.

All this is accompanied by over 60 enemies and 30 locations dedicated to the lore. As well as various mini-quests featuring mysteries and puzzles that reward us with rare items. And with more news coming soon from the team.

In Conclusion

Hero’s Hand looks to be a fun Poker-themed Roguelike title. Unlike Balatro, it offers an RPG Fantasy adventure. But with a planned release date of 2026, we’ll have to wait a little longer to see the game in action. However, we’re sure the team will reveal more updates soon, such as gameplay and possibly a demo.
